What are they for, those .xml files that are always under "Information" with the ffp and md5 files? Do I need a specific browser or app to get the most from them?

They're just information about the data associated with the show - if you don't know what they are, don't worry about them. :)

To be a little more specific, they're internal information used by the Archive. They contain all the information about the show and the songs that you see on the details page, in a format designed for the convenience of computers, not people. They're basically useless unless you're running your own copy of the Internet Archive. :)

Actually, the xxx_files.xml file could potentially be useful to a programmer who wanted to write an application to automatically tag the downloaded flac files. It's something I've been thinking about doing for a while, but have never gotten around to. But if I or someone else ever does, then the _files.xml file could become useful to anyone who had a copy of the application.

Great to see you still around xtifr! And once again, you provide an detailed, insightful, intelligent response about the inner-workings of the systems here :)

Hi

CAn anyone tell me whether it is possible for me to update the XML files as I've amended the XML files to correct some errors (e.g. mediatype and collection) as well as creating titles for the files that I have uploaded.
I'm using the FTP interface but I currently don't have suitable permissions.

My files can be found at http://www.archive.org/details/EugeneOnegin

Thanks in advance.

David

On that item, what mediatype and collection should it be? We can fix those at this end.

Can you change the mediatype to movies and the collection to opensource_movies.

Thanks

I believe an admin has to fix the mediatype/collection, but you can correct the titles by clicking on "Edit item". The xml files can't be edited directly for fear of seriously hosing them. :)
